“To keep our body in good health is a duty… otherwise, we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” ~Buddha
I hope that we can all agree that we all come together at VIBE to maintain or achieve health of some sort. Whether it’s body, mind, or spirit (or maybe the trifecta!) keeping our bodies in good health is our duty in order to maintain health all around. While working out it’s completely normal to get a post-workout ache while your muscles heal. Everything you do in life should be balanced. We love seeing all of your faces each and everyday, but how do you keep your body healthy beyond the walls of VIBE?
You work your mind and muscles so hard that you forget to really truly take care of your body. A couple of years ago I was in a very bad car accident and it left me with a mild traumatic brain injury, disc herniation, nerve damage, and ultimately chronic pain. I always kept it super low-key because people start a pity party parade. I am so blessed that I wasn’t paralyzed, but there is only so much pain medication and treatments can do. I’ve been on every kind of pain medication and been to physical therapy, chiropractic therapy, various massage therapists, and neurologists. As amazing and helpful as they all are, the best they could do is keep me comfortable. It’s really hard explaining my pain to people and getting the relief that I need. I’ve been fighting to maintain control of my life by attending classes at VIBE. The cardio is better than my pain medication, the classes keep my needs -physically, mentally, and spiritually- met, and then the nerve pain kicks in and my muscles take over.
You might have noticed business cards for a few local businesses at VIBE’s front desk. Ashley raves about Melissa Acquino, LMT, at Essential Hair Salon & Therapeutic Massage, so I booked an appointment. I’m always apprehensive about going to new places, out of the fear of being let down again, but Melissa did not let me down. I had the best massage that I have ever had. She hit every spot that I try to explain to people. If you get a good massage you will get a post-massage ache, but other than that I feel incredible and I cannot thank her enough. If you need a complement to your workout and don’t know where to start, I highly recommend booking a massage with Melissa (she even takes insurance!!!).
Treat yourself. Love your body in every way you can. If you have chronic pain, don’t go down without a fight. Take your time and explore your options and find what complements your VIBE.
