Have you ever had a friend that berates themselves when they are feeling down? Of course you have. They start saying things like “I’m so stupid, I suck at this, I’m lazy…” and the list goes on and on. It hurts you to hear them say those words and it upsets you so you tell them not to talk like that. You get mad at them, but then you’re thinking and saying those same things about yourself the next day. What’s the difference between your friend saying stuff like that about themselves and you? NOTHING. Something we often forget about is self-compassion.
Getting on the bike for the first time is the hardest part —I can’t stress that enough. Once, you’re past that, VIBE will always have your back, giving you the love and support you need. However, as we always stress that it’s YOUR VIBE journey, your biggest barrier to progress is yourself. Showing up to VIBE means you’ve chosen to be kind to your body. In class, VIBE instructors are always stressing mind over matter. “You can do anything if you put your mind to it,” is proven at VIBE. Your mind has so much power over your body, so if you’re not kind to yourself, you’re not being as kind to your body as you think you are. The next time you’re on your bike berating yourself to get yourself to go faster or turn up the resistance —STOP and ask yourself, would I say that to a friend? Would I let them say that about themselves? Give yourself the compassion that you give to your friends. It all begins with you and how you think about yourself and you deserve all of the kindness in the world.
