“We’re waiting on that moment or experience where everything in our mind is just perfect. When we feel off, we put our lives off. That’s right. You’re waiting on a feeling. Life doesn’t work like that… and while you’re waiting for it to improve… your life isn’t getting any better.”
I’m living in the fear of not being in that perfect moment. We all write these scripts in our heads of how we perceive reality to be. For me, my script has been driven by my chronic pain. I’m not trying to undermine the severity of it, but my life script, every moment and every choice I make has been dictated by it and the thing is, I let it take over my thoughts. Okay. So, I’ve discovered the problem. The problem isn’t my chronic pain. The problem is how I allow my thoughts about my chronic pain to control my actions. BOOM.
The quote above is from the book Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Life by Gary John Bishop. The past few months I’ve been in consistent cycles of ruts and desperate for answers on how to get out of them for good. This quick read was exactly the pep talk I needed. No sugarcoating. No BS. Bishop breaks down the book with 7 simple assertions.
I am willing.
I am wired to win.
I got this.
I embrace the uncertainty.
I am not my thoughts; I am what I do.
I am relentless.
I expect nothing and accept everything.
What I got out of this book is that our minds can cause serious problems if we don’t take control of our thoughts. We can do anything we put our minds to if we push the fear causing thoughts out and hold onto the the positive ones that we really want.
Alright. I got WAY more than that out of this book.
The new year is just around the corner and if you are truly willing to make changes, you are wired to win, you got this because you embrace uncertainty. You are NOT your fearful thoughts. You are what you do, relentlessly. When you remove unrealistic expectations of yourself and accept reality, you’ll be amazed at what you can do.
I look forward to seeing where these assertions take me and I hope you join me on the way!
